Racing at Thruxton - 14th October 2001
The day started with thick fog, but on the way down to
the circuit it looked like the weather might clear.
During qualifying, the
track was dry and James went out on slicks. This was James'
first time racing at Thruxton and he qualified 2nd in his class.
James said "It is very difficult to get a clear lap as the 2 litre
cars are swarming all over us at the back of the circuit and you have
to give way". James' last lap was his best as he had a relatively
clear run.
Just before the race,
the heavens opened and the track was very wet and hazardous. The
race started and was red flagged within a lap. The restart went
smoothly and within two laps James was leading his class. Within
another lap James was right behind a 2 litre car, the spray was very
heavy and visability was minimal. James tried to pass the 2 litre
car several times but was retaken on the straights.
James held his position
and went on to take 1st place. An excellent
result.
